The veil has many hooks to deal with.

Day 7: Long-Term Sanctification Vision

Today’s Veil to Pierce

As we conclude Week 14, we now look at the long-term vision of sanctification — the deceptive veil that turns the journey into a lifelong performance review, where the false self keeps a running tally of how “holy” you are becoming. This veil creates the illusion that sanctification is a slow, uncertain march toward a distant goal, where the eternal life revealed at Passover is still something you must work toward rather than rest in. The false self loves this long-view story because it keeps you striving and never quite arriving. In our reflections, this vision counters the veil, echoing the father’s feast that was already prepared before the prodigal even turned toward home (Luke 15:23). Grace does not offer a long-term improvement plan. It offers the immediate realization that the feast has always been ready.

Grace’s Revelatory Power

Grace redefines long-term sanctification as the gradual release of the illusion that there is anything to achieve. It does not stretch you toward a future version of yourself. It keeps revealing the self you already are — the one hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). This power is patient and conclusive: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “not there yet,” dissolving the illusion that sanctification is a destination rather than a remembering. Through this, grace fosters rest: the false self’s lifelong striving fades, allowing the soul to live the long view as the simple, ongoing discovery that you were never separate from the Life that rose on Easter morning.

Contemplative Depth

Take a moment to look at the long arc of your spiritual life.

Not to evaluate it. Just to look at it.

Feel the veil tighten — the subtle assumption that you are still lacking, the quiet mental tally of progress, the belief that the journey must continue for many more years before you can truly rest. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.

You do not need to reach a finish line.

You only need to notice that the same Life that rolled away the stone is already moving in you — right now, in this ordinary place of “still growing.”

The long-term vision is not a test.

It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.

Applying the Insight

When the old long-term pressure of “I should be further along by now” arises, pause.

Ask yourself one quiet question:

“Am I striving from fear, or resting in the Life already given?”

Then breathe.

The answer usually changes everything.

Daily Reflection Prompt

Sit with the long arc of your spiritual life for five minutes without evaluating it. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if the eternal life revealed at Passover is already the destination? Write what arises.
