No Separate Person to Atone

The veil has many hooks to deal with.

Day 4: No Separate Person to Atone

Today’s Veil to Pierce

Following the redefinition of sin as misperceived separation, we now contemplate the ultimate piercing: there is no separate person to atone—the deceptive veil’s most fundamental illusion, where the false self posits an independent entity requiring reconciliation with the divine. This veil creates the entire atonement construct: a “me” apart from God, burdened by sin, needing payment or purification. Such deceptions sustain separation at its root, suggesting the infinite source is other, offended, or distant. In our reflections, this revelation aligns with Galatians 2:20’s “it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me,” where grace pierces the veil of separate identity to unveil the non-dual reality—no separate person ever existed to need atonement.

Grace’s Revelatory Power

Grace unveils that no separate person exists to atone, revealing the deceptive veil as the primary misperception itself. It doesn’t require a sacrificial transaction but dissolves the illusion of separateness, as in Romans 6:6-7’s “our old self was crucified with him” to free us from sin’s power. This power is radical and liberating: grace exposes the egoic construct as fiction, allowing the soul to rest in the divine’s unbroken presence. Through this, grace ends the cycle: the false self’s need for atonement vanishes, revealing the eternal unity where “atonement” is simply awakening to what always is—oneness without division.

Contemplative Depth

To realize this, enter a non-dual meditation: focus on the sense of “I” as separate, observing the deceptive veil’s construction of a person needing atonement. Invite grace to dissolve the illusion: in profound stillness, feel the separate “I” fade, boundaries blur, and pure being emerges. As depth builds, sense the revelation—no person to atone, only the divine essence expressing. This practice uncovers layers: egoic identity releases, emotions of guilt or striving dissolve, and the soul abides in seamless oneness. Grace facilitates this with ultimate simplicity, turning contemplation into a direct seeing, where deceptive veils of separate personhood yield to grace’s truth of non-dual unity, complete and atoned already.

Applying the Insight

Live beyond separate personhood daily: in self-perception or interactions, rest in grace’s revelation of oneness, free from atonement’s illusion.
