Common Suffering Types

The veil has many hooks to deal with.

Day 5: Common Suffering Types

Today’s Veil to Pierce

You have been taught to categorize suffering — physical, emotional, relational, existential — as if each type requires a different strategy or a different level of grace.
That categorization is Maya wearing a helpful mask.
The false self turns every kind of pain into a separate problem to be solved, creating the illusion that some suffering is more “spiritual” than others or that certain pains prove you are farther from God. This veil fragments the divine essence, suggesting that grace must adapt to the type of suffering rather than simply be present in all of it. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes the friends of Job, who tried to classify his suffering into neat theological boxes. Grace does not categorize pain. It meets it.

Grace’s Revelatory Power

Grace meets every type of suffering with the same unchanging presence, revealing Maya’s veil by showing that no form of pain can separate you from the Life that conquered death. It does not rank suffering or offer different remedies for different categories. It simply says, as it said to the disciples in the storm and to Mary at the tomb: “I am with you.” This power is steady and non-discriminating: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “this kind of pain is different,” dissolving the illusion that any suffering is beyond the reach of the eternal life revealed at Passover. Through this, grace fosters wholeness: the false self’s compartmentalized distortions fade, allowing every kind of pain to become another doorway into the same oneness.

Contemplative Depth

Take one current suffering — whatever type it is — and hold it without trying to classify or solve it. Observe Maya’s veil turning it into a separate problem. Invite grace to meet it: in deep stillness, feel the presence that does not categorize — the same Life that rolled away the stone simply arrives. As depth builds, sense the unity: mental labels dissolve, the heart rests in undivided companionship, and a profound wholeness emerges. This practice uncovers layers: the need to understand the “type” releases, emotions of isolation evolve into quiet connection, and the soul experiences all suffering as held in the same embrace. Grace guides this with non-judgmental steadiness, turning contemplation into a sacred meeting, where Maya’s veils of categorized suffering yield to the truth of non-dual oneness, present in every ache.

Applying the Insight

When suffering of any kind arises, pause before the old categories begin.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I trying to classify this from fear, or resting in the Life already given?”

Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.

Daily Reflection Prompt

Choose one current suffering. Sit with it for five minutes without trying to categorize or solve it. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if the eternal life revealed at Passover is already holding this too? Write what arises.
