The veil has many hooks to deal with.
M4:Week 2: Maya Hindering Inner Growth
Day 5: Measuring Progress Gracefully
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught to measure spiritual progress like a scorecard — how much sin you have reduced, how many good habits you have added, how “close” you feel to God today compared to yesterday.
That measuring is Maya wearing a pious mask.
The false self turns inner growth into another performance metric. It whispers that you are still “not there yet,” that every slip proves you are not serious, and that grace is only the starting line while you must run the rest of the race alone. This veil creates the illusion that sanctification is a slow march toward a distant God rather than the gradual remembering that you were never separate from the Life revealed at Passover.
Grace does not grade on a curve.
It does not grade at all.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace redefines progress as the gradual dissolution of the illusion that there is anything to progress toward. It does not track your improvement. It simply keeps shining on what has always been true: you are not a project to be fixed. You are the expression of the same Life that rose on Easter morning. This power is patient and precise: grace exposes the deceptive veil of self-measured holiness, dissolving the illusion that you must earn what has already been given. Through this, grace fosters ease: the false self’s striving fades, allowing sanctification to become the natural unfolding of the eternal life already awakened in you.
Contemplative Depth
Take one area where you still measure yourself against an invisible standard.
Not to fix it. Just to look at it.
Feel the veil tighten — the subtle pressure to perform, the quiet assumption that you are still lacking, the mental checklist of what you must do to arrive. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need to manufacture holiness.
You only need to notice that the same Life that rolled away the stone is already moving in you — right now, in this ordinary place of “not enough.”
Measuring is not a test.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When the old pressure of “I should be further along” arises, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I striving from fear, or resting in the Life already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one area where you still measure yourself. Sit with it for five minutes without trying to improve it. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if the eternal life revealed at Passover is already moving in this too? Write what arises.
