The veil has many hooks to deal with.
M5:Week 1: Grace Empowering Holiness
Day 1: Grace Initiating Change
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught that change begins with you — your discipline, your willpower, your commitment.
That teaching is Maya at its most convincing.
The false self turns inner growth into another performance. It whispers that grace gets you started but the real work is yours alone. This veil creates the illusion that transformation is a solo project you must manage through effort and self-control. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes the older brother’s dutiful resentment in Luke 15 — the belief that the feast must be earned through hard work rather than simply received.
Grace does not wait for your initiative.
It is the initiator.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace initiates change from within, revealing Maya’s veil by showing that transformation is not something you manufacture but something you allow. It does not demand perfect conditions or heroic effort. It simply shines on what is already true, as in the prodigal’s moment of “coming to himself” (Luke 15:17), where grace met him in his lowest point and turned hunger into homecoming. This power is gentle and unstoppable: grace exposes the deceptive veil of self-powered growth, dissolving the illusion that you must become worthy before change can begin. Through this, grace fosters surrender: the false self’s striving fades, allowing real transformation to arise as the natural outflow of remembering who you already are.
Contemplative Depth
Take one area where you feel stuck or in need of change.
Not to fix it. Just to look at it.
Feel the veil tighten — the subtle pressure to perform, the quiet assumption that nothing will shift unless you push harder. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need to generate the change.
You only need to notice that the same Life that rolled away the stone is already moving in you — right now, in this ordinary place of “not enough.
The change is not a test.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When the old pressure to “make yourself better” arises, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I striving from fear, or resting in the Life already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one area where you feel stuck. Sit with it for five minutes without trying to fix it. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if the eternal life revealed at Passover is already initiating change here? Write what arises.
