The veil has many hooks to deal with.
M7:Week 4: Grace as Chesed in Daily Action
Day 1: Grace as Chesed in Small Acts
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught that real love must be grand and noticeable.
That teaching is the veil of illusion at its most dramatic.
The false self waits for big moments to show Chesed. It whispers that small, quiet acts do not count. This veil creates the illusion that steadfast love must be spectacular. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes those who overlook the steady, daily faithfulness of God while waiting for dramatic signs.
Grace does not require grand gestures.
It lives as Chesed in the small, ordinary acts.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace as Chesed in small acts reveals that the eternal steadfast love expresses itself most clearly in the unnoticed moments. Chesed does not wait for the stage — it moves in the quiet yes, the unseen kindness, the faithful presence. Charis is this same love made visible in your daily choices. This power is humble and powerful: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “it must be big to matter,” dissolving the illusion that small acts are insignificant. Through this, grace restores faithfulness: the false self’s hunger for spectacle fades, allowing Chesed to flow freely in the ordinary.
Contemplative Depth
Take one small act of kindness or faithfulness you have done or witnessed recently.
Not to measure its size. Just to look at it.
Feel the veil tighten — the dismissal that it was too small, the assumption that it did not count. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need to make your love impressive.
You only need to notice that Chesed — the eternal steadfast love — delights in the small and is already flowing as Charis through these ordinary moments.
Small acts of Chesed are not insignificant.
They are an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When an opportunity for a small act arises and the old voice says it does not matter, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I waiting for something bigger from fear, or resting in the Chesed already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one small act of Chesed you can offer today. Sit with it for five minutes without making it grand. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if Chesed is already inviting me to live this in Charis? Write what arises.
If these truths are stirring something deep in you, explore them further in my book “Chesed & Charis: Two Sides of the Same Coin,” available here.
