The veil has many hooks to deal with.
M8:Week 1:Grace Living Chesed Daily
Day 1: Grace as Chesed in Ordinary Moments
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught that Chesed belongs in grand gestures and special seasons.
That teaching is the veil of illusion at its most compartmentalizing.
The false self reserves steadfast love for the big moments — holidays, crises, or public displays. It whispers that ordinary days are too small for covenant love. This veil creates the illusion that Charis only appears in the dramatic. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes the Israelites gathering manna every single morning — Chesed showing up in the most ordinary provision.
Grace does not wait for special occasions.
It lives Chesed in your ordinary moments as Charis.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace as Chesed in ordinary moments reveals that the eternal steadfast love expresses itself most clearly in the daily and the mundane. Chesed was anchored before the beginning of time. It does not need dramatic settings to be real. Charis is this same love now appearing in your breakfast table, your commute, your quiet conversations, and your everyday faithfulness. This power is intimate and steady: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “this moment is too small,” dissolving the illusion that steadfast love requires spectacle. Through this, grace restores presence: the false self’s waiting for the big moment fades, allowing Chesed to live as Charis in every ordinary day.
Contemplative Depth
Take one ordinary moment from your recent days — nothing dramatic, just a regular slice of life.
Not to spiritualize it. Just to look at it.
Feel the veil tighten — the assumption that this moment is too small for God’s love, the quiet belief that Chesed belongs somewhere else. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need the moment to be special.
You only need to notice that Chesed — the eternal steadfast love — is already living in this ordinary place as Charis.
Chesed in ordinary moments is not diminished.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When an ordinary moment feels insignificant and the old compartmentalizing begins, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I waiting for a bigger moment from fear, or resting in the Chesed already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one ordinary moment from today or yesterday. Sit with it for five minutes without trying to make it special. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if Chesed is already living here as Charis? Write what arises.
