The veil has many hooks to deal with.
M8:Week 2:Grace as Chesed in the Body
Day 4: Grace as Chesed Empowering Service
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught that service is something the strong do for the weak.
That teaching is the veil of illusion at its most hierarchical.
The false self turns service into a one-way transaction from the capable to the needy. It whispers that true service requires superior strength or status. This veil creates the illusion that Chesed flows only downward from power. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes the disciples arguing about greatness while Jesus washed their feet.
Grace does not empower service from a position of superiority.
It empowers service as mutual Chesed.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace as Chesed empowering service reveals that the eternal steadfast love turns every member into both giver and receiver. Chesed does not create hierarchies of strength — it creates a body where every part serves every other part. Charis is this same empowering love now visible in how you serve and are served. This power is mutual and dignifying: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “service is for the strong,” dissolving the illusion that some are only givers and others only receivers. Through this, grace restores true body life: the false self’s hierarchy fades, allowing Chesed to empower service as Charis in every direction.
Contemplative Depth
Take one place where you currently serve — or where you resist being served.
Not to change roles. Just to look at it.
Feel the veil tighten — the subtle ranking of strength, the discomfort of receiving, the assumption that service is one-directional. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need to be the strong one.
You only need to notice that Chesed — the eternal steadfast love — is already empowering mutual service, and Charis is making it visible — right now, in this ordinary exchange.
Chesed empowering service is not hierarchy.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When service feels one-sided or hierarchical and the old ranking begins, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I serving from superiority from fear, or resting in the Chesed already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one place of service or receiving. Sit with it for five minutes without ranking. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if Chesed is already empowering mutual service here as Charis? Write what arises.
