The veil has many hooks to deal with.
M9:Week 2: Grace in the Visible Life of the Body
Day 5: Grace in the Body’s Honesty
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught that honesty in the body must be carefully managed so as not to damage relationships.
That teaching is the veil of illusion at its most cautious.
The false self treats truth-telling as a high-risk activity — something that must be softened, delayed, or avoided if it might create tension. It whispers that real belonging requires the appearance of harmony more than the practice of honesty. This veil creates the illusion that the steadfast love that holds the body is too fragile to handle the truth. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes every community that praises authenticity while quietly rewarding those who never name what is actually happening.
Grace does not make honesty optional or dangerous.
It makes honesty possible because the love that holds the body is already secure.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace in the body’s honesty reveals that the eternal root of Charis — the steadfast, covenantal love of God — creates a safety in which truth can be spoken without fear of exile. This love does not require the appearance of harmony. Charis is this same love now visible when the body learns to speak honestly inside the security of belonging rather than outside it. This power is clarifying and protective: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “honesty risks the relationship,” dissolving the illusion that the shared life is safer when difficult truths stay hidden. Through this, grace restores true integrity: the false self’s careful management of appearance fades, allowing honesty to become a visible expression of the love that has always held the body.
Contemplative Depth
Take one place where honesty has been delayed or softened in the body.
Not to force confrontation. Just to look at the silence.
Feel the veil tighten — the quiet calculation of risk, the subtle preference for surface peace, the assumption that the relationship cannot hold the full truth. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need to protect the body from honesty.
You only need to notice that the steadfast love anchored before time is already holding the relationship, and Charis is making room for the truth — right now, in this ordinary place of caution.
Honesty is not dangerous.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When the impulse to soften or avoid the truth arises and the old caution begins, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I protecting appearance from fear, or resting in the love already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one place where honesty has been delayed. Sit with it for five minutes without forcing speech. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if the steadfast love is already making honesty safe here as Charis? Write what arises.
