The veil has many hooks to deal with.
M5:Week 2: Grace in Relationships
Day 6: Grace in Adversarial Ties
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught that some people are your enemies and must remain so.
That teaching is the veil of illusion we have called Maya at its most divisive.
The false self turns every adversarial relationship into a permanent battlefield, where the other person becomes the symbol of everything wrong. It whispers that grace can heal most things but not this — not the one who hurt you, betrayed you, or stands against you. This veil creates the illusion that some separations are justified and permanent. In our reflections, this distortion echoes the older brother’s refusal to forgive his brother (Luke 15:28) — the belief that some wounds are too deep for grace.
Grace does not ask you to pretend the wound did not happen.
It asks you to stop letting the wound define the relationship.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace transforms adversarial ties by revealing the deceptive veil of “this person is my enemy.” It does not demand instant reconciliation but offers the same love the father showed both sons. This power is courageous and healing: grace exposes the illusion that some people are beyond redemption, dissolving the need to keep them in the role of enemy. Through this, grace restores possibility: the false self’s defensive distortions fade, allowing adversarial ties to become another place where the eternal pattern of Passover — the movement from illusion to Life — can be lived.
Contemplative Depth
Take one adversarial relationship — past or present.
Not to forgive them immediately. Just to look at it.
Feel the veil tighten — the old story of betrayal, the quiet certainty that they are the problem. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need to trust them again today.
You only need to notice that the same Life that rolled away the stone is already loving both of you — right now, in this ordinary place of enmity.
The adversarial tie is not a permanent sentence.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When an adversarial thought arises and the old story begins, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I protecting myself from fear, or resting in the Life already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one adversarial tie. Sit with it for five minutes without trying to resolve it. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if the eternal pattern of Passover is already loving both of us? Write what arises.
