The veil has many hooks to deal with.

Day 6: Grace as Chesed in Sustained Presence
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught that love should come and go according to convenience.
That teaching is the veil of illusion at its most temporary.
The false self shows up for the dramatic moments but fades during the long, ordinary seasons. It whispers that sustained presence is exhausting and optional. This veil creates the illusion that steadfast love is only for the highlights. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes the friends who sat with Job in silence for seven days — and then began to fail when the suffering continued.
Grace does not love for a season.
It enacts Chesed in sustained presence.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace as Chesed in sustained presence reveals that the eternal steadfast love stays through the long middle. Chesed does not abandon when the crisis becomes chronic. Charis is this same love now visible when you remain present with others through the undramatic days. This power is steady and healing: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “I have done enough for now,” dissolving the illusion that love can be seasonal. Through this, grace restores endurance: the false self’s quick exits fade, allowing Chesed to flow as Charis in your long-term faithfulness.
Contemplative Depth
Take one relationship or situation that requires sustained presence.
Not to solve it. Just to look at it.
Feel the veil tighten — the weariness, the temptation to pull back, the assumption that you have already done your part. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need to sustain everything perfectly.
You only need to notice that Chesed — the eternal steadfast love — never leaves, and Charis is inviting you to remain present — right now, in this long season.
Chesed in sustained presence is not exhaustion.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When weariness tempts you to withdraw from sustained presence, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I pulling back from fear, or resting in the Chesed already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one relationship or situation needing sustained presence. Sit with it for five minutes. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if Chesed is inviting me to remain here in Charis? Write what arises.
If these truths are stirring something deep in you, explore them further in my book “Chesed & Charis: Two Sides of the Same Coin,” available here.
