The veil has many hooks to deal with.

Day 5: Grace as Chesed in Truth-Telling
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught that truth must be spoken harshly or withheld to keep peace.
That teaching is the veil of illusion at its most damaging.
The false self swings between brutal honesty that wounds and silence that avoids conflict. It whispers that real love cannot hold both truth and kindness. This veil creates the illusion at Chesed and honesty are opposites. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes those who used religious truth as a weapon rather than as healing.
Grace does not separate truth from love.
It speaks truth as Chesed.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace as Chesed in truth-telling reveals that the eternal steadfast love speaks honestly while remaining loyal. Chesed does not flatter or destroy — it names reality inside unbreakable commitment. Charis is this same love now visible when you speak truth in a way that builds up rather than tears down. This power is courageous and kind: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “truth or love,” dissolving the illusion that they must compete. Through this, grace restores honest community: the false self’s extremes fade, allowing Chesed to flow as Charis in your words.
Contemplative Depth
Take one situation where truth needs to be spoken.
Not to rehearse the words. Just to look at it.
Feel the veil tighten — the pull toward harshness or silence, the fear of conflict, the assumption that truth will break the relationship. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need to choose between truth and love.
You only need to notice that Chesed — the eternal steadfast love — holds both, and Charis is inviting you to speak from that same place — right now, in this situation.
Truth spoken as Chesed is not destructive.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When the moment comes to speak truth and the old extremes arise, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I swinging toward harshness or silence from fear, or resting in the Chesed already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one situation where truth needs to be spoken. Sit with it for five minutes without rehearsing. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if Chesed is inviting me to speak this truth in Charis? Write what arises.
If these truths are stirring something deep in you, explore them further in my book “Chesed & Charis: Two Sides of the Same Coin,” available here.
