Grace as Chesed Giving Gifts

The veil has many hooks to deal with.

M8:Week 4:Grace as Chesed Equipping the Body

Day 1: Grace as Chesed Giving Gifts

Today’s Veil to Pierce

You have been taught that ministry gifts are earned through maturity or spiritual achievement.
That teaching is the veil of illusion at its most hierarchical.

The false self turns the five-fold gifts into positions of status — something the advanced receive and the rest admire from below. It whispers that the gifts create a class of special people. This veil creates the illusion that Chesed distributes power unevenly. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes the disciples arguing about who would be the greatest while Jesus washed their feet.

Grace does not create a hierarchy of giftedness.
It gives gifts through Chesed for the equipping of all.

Grace’s Revelatory Power

Grace as Chesed giving gifts reveals that the eternal steadfast love distributes capacity so the whole body can mature. Chesed does not hoard power or create permanent ranks. Charis is this same giving love now visible in how the gifts exist to equip every member for works of service. This power is mutual and purpose-driven: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “gifts create superior people,” dissolving the illusion that some are permanent ministers and others permanent recipients. Through this, grace restores true body life: the false self’s hierarchy fades, allowing Chesed to give gifts as Charis for the building up of the whole.

Contemplative Depth

Take one gift you see operating in the body — or one you sense stirring in yourself.
Not to rank it. Just to look at it.

Feel the veil tighten — the subtle ranking of importance, the quiet comparison, the assumption that gifts create levels of belonging. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.

You do not need gifts to create status.
You only need to notice that Chesed — the eternal steadfast love — is already giving gifts for the equipping of all, and Charis is making that giving visible — right now, in this ordinary body.

Chesed giving gifts is not hierarchical.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.

Applying the Insight

When ranking or comparison around gifts arises, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I measuring status from fear, or resting in the Chesed already given?”

Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.

Daily Reflection Prompt

Choose one gift you see in the body or sense in yourself. Sit with it for five minutes without ranking. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if Chesed is already giving this gift for the equipping of all as Charis? Write what arises.
