The veil has many hooks to deal with.
M9:Week 9: Grace in the Shared Life of the Body
Day 7: Grace Fully Shared in the Body
Today’s Veil to Pierce
As we close Week 33, the old pull toward private lives that only occasionally overlap may still whisper.
That whisper is the final veil of illusion making its last stand.
The false self wants you to believe that the shared life is a secondary layer added on top of individual existence. It whispers that real belonging is limited, that vulnerability and responsibility and joy and suffering are best managed alone. This veil creates the illusion that the body is a collection of separate people rather than one life lived together. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes every community that remains polite while remaining essentially alone.
Grace does not leave the life of the body partial.
It makes the life of the body fully shared.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace fully shared in the body reveals that the eternal root of Charis — the steadfast, covenantal love of God — creates more than overlapping individual lives. It creates one body in which holding, belonging, vulnerability, responsibility, joy, and suffering are genuinely mutual. Charis is this same love now visible when the body stops living parallel lives and begins to live a common life. This power is complete and restful: grace exposes the last deceptive veil of “we are still mostly separate,” dissolving the illusion that full sharing is idealistic. Through this, grace restores true body life: the false self’s private boundaries fade, allowing the shared life to become the ordinary reality of the community.
Contemplative Depth
Take the entire movement of this week — holding, mutual belonging, shared vulnerability, shared responsibility, shared joy, shared suffering, fully shared.
Not to achieve it perfectly. Just to receive it.
Feel the veil tighten one last time — the subtle preference for private management, the quiet resistance to full interdependence. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need the body to become perfectly shared by effort.
You only need to notice that the steadfast love anchored before time is already making the life of the body fully shared, and Charis is making that sharing visible — right now, in this imperfect community.
Fully shared life is not idealistic.
It is an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When the old preference for private management returns, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I defaulting to separate lives from fear, or resting in the love already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Sit with the shared life of the body for five minutes. Notice where the veil still whispers. Then ask: What if the life of the body is already fully shared as Charis? Write what arises.
