Grace in Small Obediences

The veil has many hooks to deal with.

Day 2: Grace in Small Obediences

Today’s Veil to Pierce

You have been taught that obedience must be big and impressive to matter.
That teaching is the veil of illusion we have called Maya at its most exhausting.

The false self turns obedience into performance — grand gestures, visible sacrifices, public declarations. It whispers that small, quiet acts are insignificant. This veil creates the illusion that only the dramatic counts with God. In our reflections, this distortion echoes Naaman expecting a grand ritual for his healing while the prophet told him simply to wash in the Jordan seven times.

Grace does not demand spectacular obedience.
It honors the small, faithful ones.

Grace’s Revelatory Power

Grace empowers small obediences by revealing that the eternal pattern of Passover is built on daily faithfulness. The manna came every morning, not in dramatic displays. The resurrection Life expresses itself most clearly in the quiet yeses repeated day after day. This power is gentle and cumulative: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “it has to be big to matter,” dissolving the illusion that small acts are unimportant. Through this, grace restores sustainability: the false self’s pressure for grand performance fades, allowing small obediences to become the steady rhythm of the new life already at work in you.

Contemplative Depth

Take one small obedience that has been stirring in you lately.
Not to analyze its size. Just to look at it.

Feel the veil tighten — the dismissal that it is too small, the pressure to make it bigger, the assumption that it won’t make a difference. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.

You do not need to make it impressive.
You only need to notice that the same Life that rolled away the stone is already moving in this small yes.

Small obediences are not insignificant.
They are an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.

Applying the Insight

When a small obedience feels unimportant and the old pressure for something bigger rises, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I dismissing this from fear, or resting in the Life already given?”

Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.

Daily Reflection Prompt

Choose one small obedience stirring in you. Sit with it for five minutes without trying to enlarge it. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if the eternal pattern of Passover is already alive in this small step? Write what arises.
