The veil has many hooks to deal with.
M6:Week 2: Grace Releasing Old Patterns
Day 1: Grace and Old Identities
Today’s Veil to Pierce
You have been taught to carry your old identities like permanent labels.
That teaching is the veil of illusion we have called Maya at its most sticky.
The false self clings to who you used to be — the wounded one, the failure, the responsible one, the broken one. It whispers that these labels define you more than anything else. This veil creates the illusion that the new life must be built on top of the old identity rather than replacing it. In our shared contemplations, this distortion echoes the disciples still seeing themselves as fearful fishermen even after encountering the risen Christ.
Grace does not improve your old identity.
It releases you from it.
Grace’s Revelatory Power
Grace releases old identities by revealing that the eternal pattern of Passover is a complete exchange. The Israelites did not leave Egypt with improved slave identities — they left as free people. The resurrection Life does not patch up the old self. It calls forth the new. This power is liberating and kind: grace exposes the deceptive veil of “this is just who I am,” dissolving the illusion that your past labels are permanent. Through this, grace restores freedom: the false self’s grip on old stories fades, allowing you to walk as one already made new.
Contemplative Depth
Take one old identity you still carry — the victim, the performer, the fixer, the unworthy one.
Not to fight it. Just to look at it.
Feel the veil tighten — the familiar weight, the quiet agreement that this is still you, the assumption that it can never fully change. Then let grace do what it does best: nothing dramatic. Just a gentle turn of attention.
You do not need to fix the old identity.
You only need to notice that the same Life that rolled away the stone has already called you by a new name — right now, in this ordinary moment.
Old identities are not permanent.
They are an invitation to stop resisting what is already true.
Applying the Insight
When an old identity rises and begins to feel true again, pause.
Ask yourself one quiet question:
“Am I clinging to this label from fear, or resting in the Life already given?”
Then breathe.
The answer usually changes everything.
Daily Reflection Prompt
Choose one old identity you still carry. Sit with it for five minutes without trying to fight it. Notice where the veil tightens. Then ask: What if the eternal pattern of Passover has already released me from this? Write what arises.
